Units may be assembled in lengths outside the trench. Ensure 4 clips are used on each bell/spigot joint.

Trench Construction

The following instructions are believed to be compliant with Network Rail specifications, but in case of ambiguity, specifications provided by Network Rail shall apply.

Excavate trench 300mm wider to allow 150mm clearance each side of duct bank. Deep enough to form a graded bedding (pea gravel) 150mm below and 1100mm cover from top of lowest rail to top of ducts. Where multiple banks are to be laid, allow 50mm between units to enable proper compaction. Fill around the ducts with pea gravel to a depth 150mm above the top of the ducts
